Tuberculosis Control Programme

A collaborative project between Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP), Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) and Navnirman Samaj Vikas Kendra, Tuberculosis Control Programme aims at prevention and cure of tuberculosis in urban slums of Mumbai. India has over 30% of the world’s tuberculosis incidences. The complexity increases with the reporting lapses of prevailing incidences coupled with the phasing out of reported patients in the middle of the treatment. Chances of contracting the disease are higher for migrant laborers, slum dwellers, residents of backward areas and tribal pockets; most of them being characteristic to the urban slums. Thus creating an urgent need to address the issue. We provide end-to-end care right from incidence detection to complete recovery using diet change for nutritional consumption and counseling services as well. We have a strong network locally with the General Practitioners who refer tuberculosis cases to us and we ensure their treatment through DOTS, a tuberculosis control strategy developed by World Health Organization (WHO).
