Income Generation Programme
People residing in Mumbai slum migrate from different parts of the country in search of livelihood. They come with their abject condition, with a hope and a dream to change their and their loved one’s life. They are prepared to do anything just to get some amount in their pocket. However these Dreams shatter when they face harsh reality of the city in various forms for instance: demolition, heavy rains, epidemic, political and administrative pressure etc. Often the amount they earn is insufficient to survive in a city like Mumbai. Also their inability to produce identity documents in front of bank authorities deprives them from their right to avail loan facilities from formal banking system.
Sooner or later circumstances compel them to burrow money from money lenders at very high interest rate which they are unable to return. This hampers growth of whole family. Therefore in order to address this we started Income Generation Project with a vision to empower poor people of Greater Mumbai socially and economically by catering to them financial and non financial services related to their business development needs. We aim to reach out to 40,000 on-going partners by 31/12/2015 and we are committed to uplift 40% of our partners from Level 2 or 3 to Level 5 at the time of completion of cycle.
Through Income Generation Program, we provide an opportunity for people to enhance their skills and sustainable means of income that ensure equal opportunities. The income generation activities have matured in last 10 years. There has been growth in many aspects of this enterprise. The number of families involved has grown from 9 to 2000. Another major growth is in self confidence and skills of the families.
