Family Development Programme

In Family Development Program, families at risk are identified by our Social worker and community volunteer. Here we focus on identifying strengths, addressing obstacles, and working to set and attain goals.

We work to prevent instability and help families on the edge of crisis move to greater stability. We aim at building self confidence of the families with low socio-economic background. We help them in understanding their own problems related to Health, Education, Income, Administrative Documents and Family Relations. We also motivate and counsel the struggling families and help build its own support network.

The power of this Program is its approach. Our staff helps the family determine its own strengths and direction, and then is there to support the family in making practical and lasting change.

Intervention Strategy

 1) Identification of Unstable families

We select families not sustainable in their own life and facing problems related with health, education, low family income, and relationship amongst family members and administration.

 2) Prioritization of Individual family’s problem

Our social worker visits such selected families every week and help them to identify and facilitate in-depth assessment of their own problems. Our Social workers also motivate them and guide them to solve their own problem by their own means. With experience we see that in 6 month period around 60 percent of such families solved their identified problems.

 3)  Special screening and Phase-out

After 6 month special screening is conducted to test their sustainability level and families which are sustainable are phased out from the program.

      Story:

Demolition, a malicious act of our government which leaves behind many unheard stories…….! And Shehnaz Khan is also the one amongst the crowd. She lost her room, her belongings and most importantly the security, mental peace which was provided by a single roof in a highly populated city like Mumbai. When we approached her she was struggling to accommodate her family on pavement under the plastic roof. She also shared with us her insecurities related to health, hygiene, education, income and crucial documents like ration card..!

Initially she was very insecure, less confident and couldn’t imagine any ray of hope for future. However after constant follow ups by our field workers and rigorous family counseling by our social worker. She could regain faith on herself. Gradually she along with her husband started daily work and living in a rental house. Today she is very happy and optimistic. Her children are going to school. And….she is working as area counselor….!
